Functional food is becoming more and more popular. In this fast growing business segment many of the companies work with health claims to highlight their products beneficial effects. Since 2007 all nutrition and health claims have to be backed up with clinical trials and in the last couple of years MLM assisted nutraceutical companies with its logistic and analytical services in several studies.

MLM has participated at the Vitafoods Europe 2019 – The global nutraceutical event-  in Geneva to get an overview about the latest trends and technologies in that area and to meet possible clients. Aprrox. 1000 exhibitors showed ingredients and raw materials, services in contract manufacturing and labelling, equipment and branded finished products. Apart from the manufacturing nutraceutical industry MLM got the chance to meet well known CRO´s which provide their services especially for clinical trials in that segment.

Besides the latest nutraceutical products MLM tested and learned more about new devices which measure body parameters of participants to accurately calculate the amount of dietary supplements on an individual basis. Such devices e.g. measure the age related macula degeneration and are used by opticians. The macula degeneration can be improved and prevented by the intake of lutein in dietary supplements. Other devices determine the overall health condition by measuring the pulse in combination with data such as age, weight, height and others to give instructions for a healthier life and to calculate dietary supplements with special regards to anti-oxidants.

In summary it was a great and instructive event for MLM at which we met a lot of interesting companies and got an extraordinary overview about this special market segment.
