For the first time BioRiver – Life Science im Rheinland e.V. invited all its members to a summer gathering at the Life Science Center in Düsseldorf. After two short talks, networking was clearly the focus of the event. The first talk was given by Dr. Heinz Bettmann from the RTZ Cologne. He introduced innovative start-ups from the tech park, like Vitura GmbH, who exports a range of German healthy food to China. To give the participants a better taste of the company’s mission products samples, like cereals and juices were given out to everybody.

Although summer was hiding, the keynote speech from Dr. Debora Grosskopf-Kroiher from the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne and Head of the Skin Cancer Prevention Project addressed an important topic, the prevention of melanoma. The project is an educational outreach activity for children aimed at increasing their awareness towards sun exposure as a primary preventive strategy. To educate the adults as well sun hats and sun lotion were given out as a reminder.

The event was a good mixture of informative talks and casually networking, a great thank you to Frauke Hangen and the whole BioRiver team for setting it up.

And hopefully next year, summer will join the summer echo as well!
