In a recent paper from the group of Prof. Lammert, University of Dusseldorf, Germany, in Nature Medicine (Marquardt et al., Nature Medicine 21 (2015) 363–372) extensive investigations on the effect of the NMDA-receptor antagonist dextromethorphan on pancreatic islet cells have been published. These data suggest that antagonising the NMDA-receptor leads to a reduction of plasma glucose concentrations and stimulation of insulin secretion.  The publication was co-authored by scientists from the University of Dusseldorf, several international institutes, Profil Institute of Metabolic Research and MLM Medical Labs.
